This week we started our swimming programme. We are lucky to have a portable pool at our school. Even though the weather is freezing, it’s nice and warm in the water. We will be swimming everyday for 2 whole weeks and have an instructor to help us improve our swimming skills. We are looking forward to swimming everyday and learning new skills.
We are a Year 6 and 7 class at St Pius X School. We work as a team to create a successful learning environment. Together we learn, create and share.

Michelle Newton’s Visit to Room 6 by Leki
On Friday we had a guest speaker who spoke to us about how she became successful. The speaker was Michelle. She is 32 years old and works for Niu FM in Manukau City. She is a sound engineer and a stand up comedian. The minute she walked through the door she made us laugh with one of her jokes. She is a Cook Islander but her dad is English. Michelle went to university and studied hard so that she could work for a radio station. She told us that it is hard to get job to work on the radio. She wants to be the CEO of Niu FM so she works really hard so that she can become the CEO. We asked her a lot of questions like If she likes to read and if she wanted to work for the radio when she was young. When she was growing up she had always liked entertainment and that was a career she wanted to be apart of. She told us later on about her family she has two children and two dogs and is a single mum. She likes to embarrass her children but her mum likes to do the same thing to her. At work she works with a lot of Pacific Islanders because it is a Pacific Island radio station. She gets to meet a lot of celebrities and most of them are kiwi. To me Michelle is an inspiration to people who want to be successful because she is successful.

Catholic Schools Day by Monique
Yay! I said as soon as the teachers said St Josephs school was coming over to Saint Pius X Catholic school. On Tuesday, 21st May when St Josephs came to SPX, we had a school mass for Catholic school day with St Josephs school together as a community.
While mass was still going on, I got to know people already because I shook hands with the students from St Josephs. Even 2 house captains from St Josephs served our school mass and they brang along their priest Father Terry to be our father for today. I really enjoyed seeing a lot of students even though there were only 5 classes at St Josephs. it was a pretty small school, I really enjoyed celebrating school mass with Father Ioane and Father Terry.
Lunch time was on and I got to meet more and more people. I got to have a very special buddy name Tiana, she is very special to me because she was very kind to me and I was very kind to her. We had a lovely time together running playing singing and talking in our own place near the tree.
After lunch time Tiana and I ran and lined up ready to go to the hall for the school concert with St Josephs and SPX. Saint Pius sang some songs and performed and St Josephs students performed for us. I really enjoyed my time with St Josephs singing together and dancing. I hope we get to meet them again. I had a cool and amazing day.

Pictograms
We are learning about statistical literacy. This means reading and writing about statistics. We learned about pictograms. One of the most important things to look for is the key. The keys is important because it tells you clues. Here is an example of a pictogram:
